I covered the aftermath of a mass shooting in Korat, Thailand, for The New York Times on February 9th and 10th. The horrific event was shocking for a country that almost never sees this kind of outright, public violence. The gunman, a Thai MP, left at least 29 people dead and many more wounded before Thai commandos shot and killed him on the morning of February 9th.

The gunman operated in a military whose officers often have outside businesses and take advantage of lower-ranking soldiers. He killed 29 people, the worst shooting in recent Thai history.
